A New Chapter: Nurturing a Sustainable Future
So many times in almost every household in Southern African regions, you will hear native Africans say the word "Ubuntu" (a Nguni word meaning humanity/collective consciousness), referring to an ancient African philosophy that meant "You are, because I am/I am, because You are."
A powerful intergenerational philosophy taught in every household, church, and school in efforts to groom every African child to always be one with their fellow neighbour and extend the same courtesy to nature and their immediate environment.
Yet, we have the most unequal societies on the continent, the highest crime rates toward our neighbours, especially toward women and children.
Hence "Ubuntu 2.0", as this is a deliberate clarion call to beg us to stand still and reflect on whether we are living according to this ancient philosophy of our ancestors or sleepwalking through a nightmare.
Frankly, we are far from being an example of Ubuntu philosophy in practice. We have lost our way, and surely doing exactly the opposite, and that can be observed by looking at the environment (polluted villages, streets, rivers, oceans, etc.), our overflowing jails, our high crime stats, extreme levels of poverty, the huge gap between the rich and poor, and unhealthy lifestyles and diet that we often mistakenly believe are cultural.
Makhee (short for "Makhelwane," a Nguni word for "my neighbour") is the "Ubuntu 2.0" movement to wake everyone up to the urgent call from our ancestors, to get back to our ways. The philosophy of Ubuntu survived this long, not because of fashion, but because it is a well-researched philosophy that was accepted by those who came before us, and still the best solution to carry us out of the nightmare we are living in, and into a better future or new chapter.
So the philosophy of Makhee is the revival of Ubuntu, and by calling one another "Makhee" should be a start to inspire each one of us to fight with one another, for one another, to rebuild our philosophy in practice, bring equality, reduce poverty, put an immediate stop to crime, clean our environment, and take care of our women and children.
We have an existing solution in philosophy, we have our numbers (a collective), resources (manpower, money, land, natural resources, etc.) and our conscience (segakolodi/unembeza) to guide & unite us towards the right direction, which is remembering how to work together to build a prosperous society.
As Makhee Solutions and the movement, we believe the unification should start with trade (buying & selling) and group economics. We have the technology, ancient & new ideas, to establish a solid foundation using Makhee.com as that starting point.
Our ancestors understood the power of community. They formed stokvels, informal savings groups, to pool resources and support one another. Inspired by this ancient wisdom, we aim to build a future where every individual and community can thrive.
We dream of a future where every piece of land is utilized to its fullest potential. A future where we:
Our philosophy is rooted in the principles of Ubuntu. We believe in the power of unity, empowerment, and sustainability:
To realize our vision, we will:
By embracing our heritage and embracing the future, we can create a thriving Africa. A future where every African, especially South Africans, can live a life of dignity and abundance.
We can draw inspiration from countries like Cuba, which, despite economic hardships, has achieved remarkable food security through sustainable agriculture and community-based initiatives. Similarly, countries like South Korea have transformed themselves from a war-torn nation to an economic powerhouse through strategic industrialization and government support.
